Yaamini Rao(Vocal)
Born and brought up in Palo Alto, Yaamini has been a disciple of Smt. Jayashree Varadarajan, founder/director of the Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandir School of Fine Arts, since she was six years old. She has been fortunate to participate in many of the Sri Rama Performing Arts operas and school programs all over the Bay Area, the most recent being Planet Prayers in March of 2007. In the fall of 2006, Yaamini placed second in the senior level of the Annual Music Exam. In addition to singing Carnatic music, Yaamini is an accomplished jazz vocalist and was the singer for the jazz bands both in college and graduate school.
Yaamini attended the University of California, Berkeley, and received her Bachelor of Arts degrees in both English Literature and Linguistic Science in 2003. In 2004, Yaamini received her Masters degree in Education from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. For the past three years, Yaamini has worked with impoverished and high risk youth by serving as the Director of the YWCA Berkeley Racial Justice Program. This August, Yaamini will be moving to Washington, DC, to pursue a law degree at the Georgetown University Law Center as a Public Interest Law Scholar.
This is Yaamini's very first solo Carnatic concert.

Rangashree Varadarajan (Violin)
Rangashree Varadarajan comes from a family of distinguished musicians. She began learning Carnatic vocal from her mother, Smt. Jayashree Varadarajan, at the tender age of 5. She has been learning Carnatic violin, from Smt. Anuradha Sridhar for the last ten years. Rangashree's fluidity and maturity in execution have made her a desirable accompanist among the music community. She is also an accomplished jazz vocalist and western violinist. Rangashree is currently a Master's candidate at Georgetown University in Physiology and Biophysics with an emphasis in Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

Arjun Haran (Mridangam)
Arjun Haran is 16 and is a junior at Irvington High School in Fremont. He has been learning to play the Mrudangam for the past eight years from Ravi Shridharan at Shruti Swara Laya. Arjun is currently learning from Vidwan Shrimushnam Raja Rao and from Sri Mannargudi Easwaran. Arjun has participated at fundraisers accompanying various teachers, as well as youth talents, both violin, vocal and veena in the Bay area. Arjun won the best youth performer award from Bharati Kalalaya in 2003. He has performed at the Tamil Manram, the Concord temple, and the Livermore temple, Badrikashram and with Nandalala. He has also performed live on the Palo Alto Radio station: Mostly Tamil. Arjun won second place in the senior category of percussion at the Cleveland festival in 2005 and was recently honored at the Cleveland 2006 festival for his dedication to the art of percussion. In addition, Arjun has won the Fremont Youth Symphony's best composer award for a piano composition. Arjun also plays the Clarinet, First Chair, for the Irvington High School Band and has recently been selected to play in the Honor Band of the Bay Area.

Varun Sundar(Violin)
Varun Sundar is a student of the Trinity Center of Music run by Smt. Anuradha Sridhar, a renowned Bay Area musician and teacher, and the daughter of Srimathi Brahmanandam of the illustrious Lalgudi family of musicians. Smt. Anuradha Sridhar’s drive for perfection, her vast knowledge and her expectations of a demanding practice regimen nurture students of outstanding capability.
Varun Sundar has been learning Violin from Smt. Anuradha Sridhar since 2002. Varun has performed in musical festivals such as the Thyagaraja Aradhana for SIFA and Ramanavami Festival in Badhrikashrima. He has won prizes in the Cleveland Thygaraja Aradhana. Recently, he was awarded 1st prize in Violin Krithi and special prize for raga alapana in Cleveland Aradhana 2007 festival. He performed his first solo concert in July 2006 for Nandalala Mission. Varun has also learned Western violin for six years and also performed in the South Bay Youth Orchestra. He enjoys writing comedy scripts and acting in drama productions and competing in speech competitions.
Varun will be a sophomore this fall at University of Illinois –Urbana Champaign majoring in Information Systems and Computer Science.

A. Mahadevan (Mridangam)
A. Mahadevan has been involved in practicing and promoting Indian music and arts for the past several years. He has provided percussion accompaniment on Mridangam, and Mohrsing for several concerts, musical events, and dance productions. He had his training in Mridangam under Sri. N. Narayanan, and he considers all great artists and vidwans as his Maanaseeka gurus. Mahadevan also learned the art of playing Mohrsing from Mridangam Maestro Srimushnam Raja Rao. He has provided Mohrsing accompaniment for several leading visiting as well as Bay area artists. In 2004, Mahadevan was awarded the title of "Kala Seva Mani" by the Bhairavi Fine Arts Society during the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aaraadana music festival.

Preethi Viswanathan (Vocal)
Preethi initially learnt Carnatic vocal music from Mrs. Radha Ramji in Madras , India and received prizes in Carnatic music competitions. Preethi then pursued music for a short while with Mrs. Tara Mohan at Bangalore and was selected into the Indian music team at the Mount Carmel College Bangalore in addition to being a member of her college choir.
Preethi is currently learning Carnatic vocal music under the guidance of Smt. Jayashree Varadarajan, founder/director of Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandir School of Fine Arts, Sunnyvale . She has actively participated and performed at various music events such as Annamacharya Sankeerthanotsavam, Purandara Dasa Day, Dikshitar Day, and Thyagaraja Day organized by local organizations such as SIFA, LOTUS, and SILICON ANDHRA to name a few. She has also performed on various occasions and celebrations at the Shiva Vishnu, Shiva Murugan, Sanatan Dharma Kendra, and Badarikashrama Temples . Recently, she performed in her music school's premier production "Planet Prayers," a fund raiser for the Shiva Murugan Temple , Concord . Preethi is an enthusiastic student, and recently was one of the recipients of first prize in the music competition held by OSAAT in 2007.
This is Preethi's first solo concert. She thanks her teacher, family and friends for the encouragement and support.
