Varshaya Visvanathan

Varshaya Visvanathan will be a junior at Lynbrook High School starting this fall 2011. She has been learning vocal music from Smt. Shanthi Shriram for the last 3+ years. Smt Shanthi Shriram is a disciple of her mother and guru Smt. Lakshmi Sundaram and granddaughter of Sangeetha Vidwan Sri Sathur A.G. Subramaniam. Prior to this Varshaya was a student of Smt. Rama Thyagarajan. Varshaya performed her mini vocal concert last year. She also won first place in the Sub-senior group category in the 2011 Papanasam Sivan krithi competitions.

Karthik Lakshminarayanan (Violin)

Karthik Lakshminarayanan

is known to Bay Area Carnatic music 'rasikas' (connoisseurs) as a vibrant and knowledgeable young artist. He initiated his carnatic music training on the violin from Smt. Sivakami Narayanan. Later, he received further training on the violin from Smt. Radha Narayanan, and more recently from Sri. Mullaivasal G. Chandramouli. For the past six years, Karthik has pursued his interests in vocal music as well, and has been fortunate to have the guidance of the vetaran vidushi Smt. Suguna Purushothaman.

Arun Shriram (Mridangam)

Arun Shriram is a seventh grader at Kennedy middle school. For the past six years, he has been learning mrdangam from his father and guru Shri. Shriram Brahmanandam.

Shriram is a disciple of Shri Harihara sharma, shri C.V. kuppuswami and shri Kumbakonam Rajappa Iyer. Arun is also the grandson of Lalgudi Smt. Srimathi Brahmanandam

a renowned violinist. He is also learning vocal music from his mother Smt. Shanthi Shriram. Arun has won the first prize in the junior Mridangam competitions held in Cleveland

Janani Karthik (Vocal)

Janani Karthik started her music training at the age of 4 in Singapore under Yazhpanam Sri A.K Karunakaran at the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society. She has completed an 8 year diploma course in Carnatic Vocal and a 5 year certificate course in carnatic violin. Janani continued her training under the late Trivandrum Sri Venkatraman and Smt Kalyani Sharma from whom she inherits a tradition of unalloyed classicism and adherence to traditional tenets in presenting chaste Carnatic music. She has performed widely in Singapore and Chennai, and in Canada and the U.S.

Karthik Gopalratnam (mridangam)

Karthik Gopalratnam is well known to Bay Area music lovers as a mrdangam artist, Karthik has had extensive training in vocal music as well. He was first taught by his mother Girija Gopalratnam, and then her guru Neela Ramgopal of Bangalore. After moving to the US he was privileged to come under the tutelage of Sreevidhya Chandramouli, a descendant of the illustrious Karaikudi Veena tradition, and whose guidance has been instrumental in moulding Karthik's music. Karthik has also benefited by his association with the many excellent musicians of the Bay Area.
